Khelo India Trials: What Selectors Actually Look For

A breakdown of the tests, the benchmarks and the preparation window, plus the five mistakes that cost athletes a place every single year.

A breakdown of the tests, the benchmarks and the preparation window, plus the five mistakes that cost athletes a place every single year.

Why it matters

At the grassroots level, enthusiasm is never the problem - structure is. Athletes train hard in bursts, plateau, get frustrated and often stop altogether. A written plan removes the guesswork and gives every session a purpose the athlete can understand and measure progress against.

How we apply it at the Foundation

Every athlete who joins is assessed on entry across strength, speed, mobility and sport-specific skill. Those numbers become the baseline. We then set a twelve-week block with two or three measurable targets, and we retest at the end of the block in front of the athlete and, where relevant, the parent.

  • Assessment on entry, retested every twelve weeks
  • Small training groups so every athlete is individually corrected
  • Written progress reports shared with parents each quarter
  • Training load monitored so athletes peak for competition, not for practice

What you can do this week

Pick two measurable targets, write them down, and test yourself against them today so you have a real baseline. If you would like our coaching panel to help set those targets, register for a free assessment session on our membership page.
